Since Televue introduced their Plossls in 1980, they have won praise and patents. Televue Plossls, designed by Al Nagler, have been a recognized benchmark of performance and value in the class of 50° apparent FOV eyepieces. While the Plossl may be the least expensive Televue eyepieces, they still enjoy the same care and attention to detail as Televeu's more exotic eyepieces.

Diffraction limiited "on-axis" performance is a given. Using more expensive high index glasses to reduce astigmatism and lateral colour at the fields edge, Televue Plossls deliver sharper images than any other brand of 4 or 5 element Plossl or Orthoscopic design. The faster the focal ratio of your telescope, the greater your visual reward for using Televue eyepieces. Televue Plossls feature full multi-coatings for greatest light transmission and contrast. Blackened lens edges and internal anit-reflection threads tweak the last bit of contrast for maximum image detail. The sharper field focusers star light into perceptible points ans allows those with undriven mounts to gaze longer before repositioning the image.

The 55mm focal length has the largest true field possible for 2" eyepiece holders - 3x the true field of any 1.25" eyepiece. The focal plane is placed at the end of the barrel to minimize vignetting. Performance with Schmidt-Cassegrains is remarkable since it avoids the image degradation and severe vignetting which occurs when using tele-compressors. Long eye-relief and a unique adjustable eyeguard make it easy to use for spectacle wearers.

The Pierro Astro Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector has been a revolution in observing and imaging objects. Through the use of 2 high quality minimum 1/10 Lamda silicate prisms, it corrects the false colour introduced by the earths atmosphere. When used for Planetary imaging it changes the clarity of the image dramatically, particularly in the Luminence channel when LRGB imaging.

As with previous versions of the Pierro Astro ADC the MkIII has an extended bandwidth range to 300nm. This makes it suitable for imaging Venus and other targets in the UV wavelength range. As the MkII before it, the prisms in the new MkIII are also more powerful allowing for correction of dispersion at lower elevations compared to the previous model. A new feature of the MkIII is a modification to the prism adjustment. Instead of two levers which must be moved equally, the new MkIII now only uses one lockable lever which adjusts both prisms simultaneously. This makes setting the optimum correction much easier.

Since the introduction of the Pierro Astro ADC, its design has been copied and now there are other, cheaper ADC's available. Do not be fooled by these cheap imitations! The Pierro Astro ADC has system accuracy of L/10 (not just a claimed accuracy for one prism surface) and uses high efficiency fused silica prisms with optimised coatings. The cheaper competition uses BK7 prisms and are at least 20% less efficient at UV wavelengths than the Pierro Astro ADC. Very importantly now the planets will be lower in the sky for many years to come, the Pierro Astro ADC has 2.5 degree prisms instead of the common 2.0 degree. This means more adjustment of dispersion is possible on low altitude objects.

We firmly belive the Pierro Astro ADC is the best non professional dispersion corrector available on the market today.

The Pierro Astro T2 Barlow adapter is a very useful accessory. It has male and female T2 threads. In addition it has an internal thread to allow for the direct connection of a Televue Powermate. For 1.25" lens cells there is a 1.25" space which allows for the internal fitting of a 1.25" cell which is then secured with two plastic grub screws.

 

The T2 Barlow adapter was designed to compliment the Pierro Astro ADC. Using it permits easy connection of Barlows or powermates to the ADC while allowing the whole assembley to be connected via T2 instead of a weaker 1.25" eyepiece clamp.

Visual Back T2 to 1.25"
