Stable, compact, transportable

The Mini Pier makes the TTS-160 Panther mount an extremely transportable  mount system. The low height and short legs makes the pier just as stable as the bigger folding pier.

For astrophotography the minipier can be placed directly on the ground as there is no need to look through the telescope. This will give great stability and lower the influence from wind.

For visual use the minpier can be placed on a stable table or another stable flat surface.

Standard Pier adapter

The Mini Pier receives the standard Pier Adapter for fast and easy installation of the mount head.

It is also possible to install the Pier Extension between Mini Pier and Mount head.

Extremely compact and easy to transport.

The Folding Pier comes in one single compact transport bag. It will fit in the trunk of even the smallest cars. When folded down the pier is completely smooth with no protruding parts and can be transported in the soft bag without any risk of damage to the Pier or surroundings. With a weight of only 11kg the Pier is easy to bring to the darkest places.

Fast setup and great stability

It takes only a few seconds to unfold the legs and mount the pier tube. The three support rods are easy to tighten and secures a very stable pier. With the Panther mount head there is no need for leveling the pier making the setup even faster.

Leveling

For use with other mount heads this version of the folding pier has adjustable feet for leveling the pier. The Feet can each be adjusted 15mm. 

Pier extension

Sometimes for visual observations you might want a higher pier. This can easily be achieved by installing one or more TTS Pier Extensions

Fast adapter for Mount Head

To attach the TTS-160 Mount head or another mount head to the folding pier you need a Pier Adapter. For the TTS-160 Mount Head adapter, please see HERE. For other mounts please contact us . This adapter attaches the mount head to the pier with a flick of  finger.

Using the Pier with other Mount Heads

The folding Pier can be adapted to be carry other mount heads. Installing the Pier adapter onto the mount head secures the same fast and easy assembly as with the TTS-160 Panther mount head.

The Astrograph Field Pier has been designed to provide users an ultra stable platform comparable to a fixed pier, but that is mobile without taking up excessive space. The standard version features a 1000mm central column that accepts standard EMC Mount Adapters. If an EMC Mount Adapter is not listed then contact us and it can be added to the range.

We introduced the Field Pier due to the lack of suitable high stability supports that are truly mobile. Many alternatives out there are either very heavy or physically not practical from a transport perspective. There are then those tripods that distort and twist under even moderate loads. Ideally we wanted a Tripod based system that could be easily transported yet was as strong as a fixed pier. We believe we have acheived this with the Astrograph Field Pier. Its weight, excluding mount adapter is a modest 23kg. Not light but manageable. It takes up no more space than conventional heavy duty tripods yet is far more stable. If you wanted to reduce its weight then the pier column can be removed.

The Field Pier can accept loads in excess of 160kg with ease and will remain stable even with off centre loading. Additional accessories are available for the Field Pier that allow trays, eyepieces and other items to be mounted onto the pier column or legs.

The design allows for the central column to be raised and lowered to provide more clearance for different loads when observing or imaging. Different length columns are available to increase overall height and clearance from the tripod legs by up to 400mm.

This half pier is supplied as a detachable column that is 140mm high by 80mm in diameter. This has a female and male thread. The thread is a dual M10 and 3/8" type. This part of the Half Pier can be used on its own with conventional tripods to provide 140mm of additional clearance.

The separate base provides an additional 40mm of height. This also has female and male dual M10 and 3/8" threads. In addition this provides a shoulder and Azimuth Pin recess to allow the base to be fitted on to HEQ5 and similar tripods which typically have an M10 thread.

Increase mount height for visual observations

If you observe visually with a long focal length refractor the eyepiece will be positioned quite low when the telescope is pointed high in the sky. With the optional Pier Extension you can easily increase the pier height with 200 mm / 8inch. If you want an even higher pier more Pier Extensions can be stacked.

The EMC observatory pier system P200 is designed using a pyramid shape for uncompromising high load carrying capacity. The top of the pyramid has a cross section corresponding to that of a circular tube of 200mm diameter, hence the 'P200' name. At the base, where the active forces are greatest, the diameter grows to 400mm (over a 1000mm pier). The stiffness follows the third power of the diameter. The increase in diameter to 400mm is thus, for example superior to a steel pipe of a 180mm diameter and 10mm wall thickness by a factor of 3 or 4!

The drawing below shows the height-adjustable pyramid head; it forms the transition from the welded pyramid on the precision machined surface for receiving the telescope mount. The pyramid head is completely made of stainless steel, the head plate with 220 mm diameter is machined flat. The hole pattern is not final and is subject to the future needs. Here individual wishes are always feasible. It is also possible to mount a custom mount adapter directly to the pier.

The observatory pier system P200 is comprised of two assemblies, the 'pyramid' and the 'pyramid head'. The diagram on the right shows how different heights are generated. The top of the pier is always the same size, with a constant angle and extended cross section towards the base until the desired height is reached. The base of the pyramid behaves linearly to the column height and is ideally suited to the demands of static piers. Any stationary column reaches its theoretical rigidity only with ideal floor anchoring. This fact is rarely given the necessary attention. The pyramid shape, with its large surface area at the base and bespoke anchoring kit provide the optimal solution to this problem. The pyramid is made of 4mm thick steel and powder coated white. Construction and finish will provide many years of corrosion resistance in even the harshest observatory enviroment.

Anchoring Kit 2 when newly concreted Two ring plates set during concreting with the threaded rods providing a particularly good anchorage to the ground. After curing the pier is simply attached to the anchor ensuring ideal power transmission. Each column height requires a dedicated anchoring kit.
