The QHY163M/C camera is incredible value. It uses a relatively large 4/3-inch, 16 Megapixel CMOS sensor (the same format as the popular 8300 CCD) and is available in both monochrome and colour. The QHY163M has exceptionally low readout noise (as low as 1 electron!), low dark current and two-stage cooling capable of reducing the sensor temperature to -40C below ambient. The sensor chamber is sealed and, unlike the ZWO ASI1600, the optical window is heated to prevent dew.

For flexibility, there are a variety of connection solutions for use with QHY filter wheels and the QHY163M camera. There is the the standard connection and a short back focus connection. Also, the optional 0.5-27.5 flexible backfocus spacer can meet any back focal length requirement.

The QHY163M camera has a built-in 4-pin QHYCFW socket and it can control and power the QHYCFW2 and QHYCFW3 directly removing the need for seperate power cables.

The QHY163M also supports any size ROI (Region of Interest) and is capable of capturing video at surprising speeds for a Deep Sky Object Imaging Camera. 22.5FPS @16MP full resolution, 30FPS 4K video, 57FPS 1920 x 1080 and up to 100FPS at 800 x 600!

Because of this Super HD resolution real time video function and ultra low read noise, the QHY163M is suitable for capturing transient phenomena, DSO imaging, spectroscopy and narrow band imaging. It is also very suitable for use as a Solar and Planetary Imaging camera making it a superb allround solution. Signal from dim objects can sometimes be lost in read noise. But with the 1.0e- noise performance at high gain this is is far less of a problem. Even stacking multiple images of a DSO is made possible.

The QHY163M has a built-in 128MB DDRII image buffer. The benefit of the image buffer is that the memory will cache the image and transfer it to the computer when the USB interface is not busy or being interrupted, and the frame will not be lost or corrupted. This buffer also allows a slower computer with USB 2.0 socket to capture every frame without loss even if the USB socket is occasionally busy with other peripherals. This buffer also helps multiple camera applications and avoids USB transfer problems. For example, it is possible to operate four QHY163M cameras on the same computer to create an LRGB imaging array.

With more than a decade of experience designing cooled cameras, QHYCCD has applied this knowledge to the QHY163M. The full anti-dew technology includes a sealed CMOS chamber with silicon gel tube socket and a heated chamber optical window. This technology prevents dew from forming on the sensor itself, or on the chamber window, even in a high humidity environment. This is a vastly superior solution to using tablets around the sensor chamber.
